Intercultural dialogue through fairy tales, drama and art

eTwinning

Students and teachers from schools, each located in every European country, will collaborate together in order to become familiar with the different cultures of each partner school’s home country through the use of fairy tales, drama and the arts. Every school involved in this project will first create a PowerPoint presentation on their school as well for posting on the eTwinning site. These presentations will then be viewed by students from all schools to provide background information on each partner school. Each school will then translate one national fairytale into English and then post this translated work on the eTwinning site for all partner schools to view. Students from all schools will then read all of these translated stories in their English classes, and teachers will also translate all the stories from English into the school’s own national language. After reading each story in English class, students will draw illustrations of their favorite scenes of the story in art class. Each school will create an exhibition of the students’ art work for the community, including local media, in order to further spread the unique stories from each partner school’s culture. Also at the exhibition, the school will include the written stories from all partner schools in English and in the national language where the exhibition is being held.In addition to learning new fairy tales from different countries, students will perform their own national fairytale in English as a play for their family, friends, and classmates. These performances will be recorded on DVD and sent to all partners to watch in English classes, and pictures will be taken for posting on the eTwinning site. All partners will send illustrations of the project national stories-one of each story to take part in common partners exhibition. The exhibition will be open for first time in Kazanlak,Bulgaria and after that will travel to all countries. Students can then watch each school’s performance recorded on DVD by each partners school and also learn what other students from other different countries thought of their national story. All fairy tales from all European countries will be published in a book with students illustrations and share between partners and distribute to local community. The age range for the students involved in this project will range from five to thirteen years old. Teachers and students will be able to communicate and further comment on all aspects of this project via the eTwinning Project Forum and on Google Group
