The world are looking for a way to produce fuels that can replace the tradicional petrol. This is possible using for example coffe grounds, a most diffuse reject in the world.
To extract the oil from the coffe grounds we used Soxhlet Extraction through specially designed glassware. Then this oil can be convert to biodiesel. =)
This way to produce fuel is very good for the ecosystem!

I really enjoyed this experience, we used materials that I had ever seen and I was very surprised by their properties and capabilities. And then extract oil from coffee grounds is an experience to be done.

Very interesting experience, I did not know that coffee grounds could even obtain biodiesel.
The solvent is heated in the boiler down and the pure steam rises through the bypass pipe, the only possible path, and reaches the top of the Soxhlet container, which is closed down. The steam continues to rise until it comes into contact with the condenser, then the liquid trickles down in the thimble (replaceable) that contains the material from which to extract nutrients. This thimble is porous, so that not only retains the solid material, like seeds or berries, but also acts as a filter preventing the material blocking the siphon hose. When the level of liquid in the Soxhlet reaches the same level as the top of the siphon, the liquid containing the dissolved residue is transferred back into the boiler.
I repeat .. very interestingemoticon
