A film about Pirates and Shipwreckeds

The films 'Pirates of the Caribbean' helped children to focus on and understand the topic .

A Story about Shipwreckeds

Children read "Treasure Island" By Robert Louis Stevenson and, after reading, they completed this journal:

Poems about Shipwreckeds

We found some child-friendly items to do with shipwrecked just like these poems:

How Shipwrecked do a shelter: Visits and Searches

We visited an outdoor education site where they do raft building from materials such as plastic, wood and rope, also they show

the kids how to build a shelter from similar materials. Of course this is what people who have been shipwrecked would have to do !

Images of Shipwrecks

Children searched many images of Shipwrecked

The Shipwrecked theme

During the first term, September - Christmas, we  covered the theme of SHIPWRECKED.

We planned Shipwrecked involved :
Geography - islands where we can imagine we might be shipwrecked, how would we survive, what would we eat, what would we need to stay alive ?

Which coastlines / islands can we learn about ?
Look at how boats are designed.
The history of people who have been shipwrecked, (e.g. Robinson Crusoe, do you know this story ?) also the lives of pirates.
Maths - distances between certain places and directions.
Obviously this is only a start, I suppose the films 'Pirates of the Caribbean' will help children to focus on and understand this topic ?
What do you think ?
